やはりバリトンはミルンズです！
声も容姿も独特の渋さと風格のあるミルンズのファンなので、少々高価でしたが買ってみました。聴いてみたところこれが大当たり！主役のミルンズはもちろん最高で、特に冒頭のパバロッティとの二重唱や、息子の頭に載せたリンゴを射落とす直前に歌うテルのアリア（第３幕）は絶品。しかもフレーニとパバロッティもそれぞれ絶頂期の録音で、旬の薫り高い伸びやかな高音を聴かせてくれます。ロッシーニのオペラは超絶技巧ばかりと思われがちですが、この作品は叙情あふれるメロディが散りばめられ、良い重唱もたくさんあり、ドラマとしての構成も面白い、ヴェルディを髣髴とさせる作品です。あまり上演の機会に恵まれないのが残念です。この録音のＤＶＤがあったら是非欲しいのですが・・・。ミルンズの出ているオペラでは他に、メトでドミンゴ、ミッロと共演している「アイーダ」（グラモフォンのDVD）や、パバロッティ、サザーランドと共演している「ランメルモールのルチア」（DECCAのCD）がお薦めです。
